The traditional Appenzell house Wissegg sits on a ridge outside the village of Bühler, 1000 metres above sea level. Surrounded by gentle meadows and far from traffic noise, it is the perfect place to unwind. The name of the former farm inn, «Cheerful View», says it all: enjoy the open view of the majestic Alpstein range and the Säntis, a panorama that has delighted travellers and nature lovers for centuries.
The furnishings are cosy, simple and practical: a traditional Appenzell house with 180 m² of living space and plenty of room for families and groups.

Ground floor

Nature and tradition
From farm inn to holiday house
An inn is recorded on this spot on the Wissegg above Bühler as early as 1315, one of the oldest businesses in the municipality. A medieval mule track once crossed this scenic ridge.
The Bodenmann family bought the property on 1 May 1930. The inn was run until 1964; since then the lovingly maintained house has been a holiday home, a living piece of Appenzell history.

How to find us
The Wissegg lies on the ridge between Bühler and Trogen. The last stretch follows a narrow lane with magnificent views.
By car
Take the A1 motorway to the St. Gallen exit, then follow signs for Appenzell via Teufen to Bühler (about 15 min). In Bühler turn left towards Wissegg and Trogen and follow the lane uphill for about 2 km. Parking right at the house.
By train and bus
Take the Appenzell Railways from St. Gallen towards Appenzell to Bühler station. From there the house is about a 45-minute walk along the hiking trail (1.5 km, 200 m of ascent).

How many people does the house sleep?
The house has 180 m² of living space, four bedrooms and eight beds. It is always let as a whole house, never room by room.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes, pets are welcome. Please mention them briefly in your enquiry so we know. There are meadows and hiking trails all around, starting right at the front door.
How much does a week at Holiday House Wissegg cost?
Weekly prices start at CHF 735 and depend on the season and the number of guests. We will quote the price for your stay when you enquire.
Is there a minimum stay?
We usually let the house by the week. For shorter stays, just ask.
Can we get to the house without a car?
Yes. Take the Appenzell Railways from St. Gallen to Bühler station, then walk about 45 minutes along the hiking trail. Unfortunately we cannot offer a pick-up service.
How does booking work?
